Randolph Hot!

My Grandad was a huge western fan and I grew up with a lot of westerns as a child.
I've rediscovered this genre after reading a lot about the West so like him my partner and I sit down and watch whatever Western is on telly on Saturdays, just like I used to with my Grandad. One thing that has never left me is the sight of Randolph Scott in his Cavalry uniform. Even now after researching U.S Cavalry uniforms and the typical "Hollywood" uniform is incorrect I think he looks hot even now. Shiny sabre and buttons and that yellow scarf. brilliant!!!

“You’re not the tooth faerie are you?”
“No, she’s real. Don’t be a plank!”

But what really attracts you are Randy's wonderful pinky rings.

Let it be unsaid: insignificance is the locus of true increpation.

reply

I assume you're referring to the fact that, at one time, gay men wore pinky rings to identify themselves.

Scott's son gets twisted out of shape when anyone suggests his dad was gay. I tend to believe he was at least bisexual.

Played a cavalry officer in this and a rabid Apache in MAJOR DUNDEE.Fine actor!

Enjoyed Mr. Scott in everything I saw him in...even this movie. He was a little long in the tooth to be playing only a captain...he was in his early 60's when this movie was made...but still did a creditable performance.

The son of the author whose short story this film is based on told me that the story had to be altered to justify Scott's obvious age. In the original, the character isn't even a captain. And he had no girlfriend (all-male movies generally don't go over well).

I read somewhere that his career was waning by the 50's but was saved by his friendship with John Wayne. Wayne had set up a film company and had more scripts than he could handle. He asked Scott to pitch in and Scott was later to credit this arrangement with extending his "leading man" acting career for a good decade.
