TCM showed it but

They did not show it in letterbox format, This film should be widescreen and they usually do the correct aspect ratio but not with this film and a few others, Why ?

reply

They (TCM) are at the mercy of whatever source prints or masters are provided by Sony. A fair number of the 'scope Warwick (the original British production company, which was where Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli got his start) films they've shown over the last couple of years haven't been letterboxed. I can only guess that maybe the original negatives are in the U.K. and Sony didn't deem it worth their while to bring them over..? But that's just a guess on my part.

Thank you for your reply

They are showing the only versions on tape or disc that are available. Such transfers were done decades ago when every CinemaScope film had to be shown on television in a pan and scan format. Some of these films have since been transferred again in their correct aspect ratio, but most of them haven't.
