interesting some of the comments here as Iam a super fan of this filn and have just bought the region 1 (USA) release as its not availible in the UK.
Brilliant remaster on DVD so worth buying as it is a valuable peice of Music history. The film now deserves a re release maybe as a double bill with say "the girl cant help it" the dialogue in RATC is really funny and would go down really well with a new audience I think.
Although I have to say the appearance of Tony Martinez and his band could do with a trim down as they spoil the rock n roll theme.I would edit so you see them finishing their performance as Alix Talton and Johhny johnston arrive at the club. Bill Haley is fantastic in the film as is the comets as well, I just hope that someone out ther ewill produce his life story as a film as this was the man who started it all!

Is this film in public domain? I know "Rock,Rock,Rock!" is and it was made by the same company and director.

Probably. Look for it in the bargain bins at the store.

I don't think it's classic enough for the copyright to be renewed.

It should be. I know many songs from that era are now out of copyright. Anyone know if it's available on DVD?

Perhaps, now we can have a proper soundtrack with today's technology.

While I got your attention, those old bitties at the dance...and the "adults" during that era; I wonder what they would think of today's music.

If they thought rock and roll was "the devil's music" back then, what they must've thought of disco?!

"Rock, Rock, Rock" is PD, but "Rock Around the Clock" isn't.

There is little logic as to why some films are copyrighted and others aren't. Speaking of which, I am still shocked that the song "Happy Birthday to You" is under copyright.

I re-issue would be a great idea though, perhaps in 2016?
