'The Rack' within the post-9/11 context


The most depressing aspect of this film is that it could no longer be made in the manner it was. At that time, it was possible for the actors portraying our military personnel to feel (non-hypocritical) self-righteous disgust with the brutal sadism of the Communist thugs. But depressingly, we now perpetrate very much the same sort of psychological torture that seemed so alien to American values in the 1950s. We have become like the Chinese.
