John Carpenter definitely influenced by this movie

I saw this for the first time today and you can definitely see that the creature in its final form on the scaffold influenced part of John Carpenter's creature design in his remake of 'The Thing'. The design of 'The Thing' in the scene when it attacks the dogs in the kennel looks similar, albiet more detailed and gruesome, to the monster on the scaffold in Quatermass, even down to the similar shots of the 'eye'. Not surprising since Carpenter grew up with a lot of 50's films.

Good point! I think this one has made an impression on more than one film maker over the years. Further testimony to it's importance as a classic piece of sci-fi history.

Indeed he was. John Carpenter used once the alias "Martin Quatermass" in "Prince of darkness" in order to disguise he was the writer.

And I believe he worked once with Quatermass creator Nigel Kneale, in the script for "Halloween III: Season of the witch", but the relationship soon soured after Carpenter and other writers rewrote his material to make it more explicit.

I don't know, the moster here looked more like an octopus. The one in The Thing certainly didn't.
