Is it just me or does this movie have the worst special effects ever? I love bad movies but as soon as the horrible paper mache monster attacked the boat at the beginning I let out a groan and gave up the film as lost.

No offence, but you are a spoiled young man. The effects were quite amazing. I agree that they weren't special but they were really great effects never-the-less. My personal favorite was how the heroine emerged from her shower with her hair already dry and her hair-do so nicely in place. Not a great effect?
How about row-boats that can remain stationary in the open sea without the bebefit of anchors. I could go on but...

I Spent $.63 on this movie which is good. That should cover the effects budget but for the most part the movie was not as bad as the retail price would suggest it was not even bad enough to be 'funny' bad.

This movie has come out as part of a 3 pack - The Phantom from Space, The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues, and The Phantom Planet, sold at Walmart for $3.88 Canadian bucks. I liked the first two films, for what they are worth, especially the grainy black and white quality of this copy. You have to hit the fast forward a lot but I enjoyed the cheese, especially 10,000 Leagues and the ending of The Phantom from Space. Some of the dialogue actually made sense, some of the time. No real character development. You can't beat the old cheesy monsters of yesteryear.

pretty good for no budget.

A great film. I would give it a 7/10 myself, I think. The monster was both laughable and frightful at the same time! Unbeatable.

That should teach you to have more faith in your fellow bad movie fans.

Yeah it's bad, but mostly becuz its dull; the acting wasnot anywhere as bad as Plan 9 or other Wood musterpieces -- just, dull, dull, DULL!

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

I thought this film was amusing in its cruddiness. That laughably hokey monster was a total hoot!

I write bios, therefore I am.

The monster was really bad, but all in all I liked the film. I have a soft spot in my heart for campy old scary movies, and this pretty much fits the definition. The leading man did a good job with what he had to work with, and the plot was not any more ridiculous than any horror films that are produced today. I think I liked it better because the special effects were so terrible.
