re: i think they should make a remake

I absolutley adore this movie! I'm really into this movies music and stuff!
I was watching it on tcm (tuner classic movies) and when it came on again, i decided to tape it! Anyway I think they should do a re-make of this movie coz it's so good! Here's my idea of a perfect cast:

Kay Hilliard> Renee Zelwegger
Crysatl Allen> Catherine Zeta-Jones
Sylvia Fowler> Nicole Kidman
Buck Winston> Colin Farrell
Steven Hilliard> Ewan McGregor
Countess> Bette Midler
Olga> Christina Applegate
Debbie> Dakota Fanning

Anyway I really hope they do!

i agree that this is quite an adorable movie and i have no regrets buying this video when i visited los angeles 10 years ago. although this movie has been mercilessly compared to the norma shearer's 1939 version (which i own a copy too), i have to agree with some that the musical assignments ought to be shared amongst the wonderful ann miller, dolores gray, ann sheridan (and even joan blondell and agnes moorehead). anyway, ms june allyson carried the musical numbers and drama sessions well. i also find the catfight between ms miller and ms gray more realistic than paulette goddard and rosalind russell's. as a whole, it's an entertaining, beautiful, colourful movie. and it's worth carrying it all the way back to malaysia...keith

I'm sorry I found this movie horrible. It does not hold a candle to "The Women". The only person watchable in the whole film was Dolores Gray. Which was such a tragedy because it has a wonderful cast. But it was an awful idea to remake the film anyway. Originally Kay Hillard was supposed to be played by Esther Williams and Kay was not a singer but a swimming star! Esther Williams saw this becoming an obvious flop at the box office and got out in time.

Why remakes all the time? Remakes seldom are as good as the original, & if they remade it, it would probably look like just another sex comedy quickly forgotten.

Great idea about a remake with today's female stars, but remake the original with no men. There was a PBS version a year or so ago that wasn't bad, but a new big screen version would be great!

Exactly. And this movie proves it.

...and in conclusion, I would like to say that James Dean and Leo Gorcey are very hot.

There is a remake in the works. It is showing a cast list of Meg Ryan (Mary), Eva Mendes (Crystal), Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing, Nicollete Sheridan (In talks), and Candice Bergen.

It would be a mistake to remake this. Most stars now are too busy mugging for the camera or chewing scenery. They go into the movie thinking about the perks and what shows they'll go on to plug it or what loot they can get for free. Most of them play the same character over and over no matter what movie they're doing.I thought this movie would have been better had it been about something else. But as a remake of The Women with the cast saying almost word for word same lines with no zip or snap like the original film it falls flat! Also the inclusion of men this time ruin it.All women only made the first film special. The musical numbers also were horrid.I wonder why the lead role name was changed. In the original it was Mary Haines. In this film it's Kay Hilliard.

Besides being a huge costly mistake to remake the original (as proven in the case of this movie), it would be IMPOSSIBLE to top the 1939 version. Most of the remakes of old movies and old TV shows in the past 30 years have been complete disasters anyway... and while we're at it, let's repaint the Sistine Chapel...

It is being remade as "The Women" 2008.

And the new script will undoubtedly be peppered with four-letter words!
