Fleet Master

Here is something I see in older movies more than in newer ones...though it does still happen. It makes me wonder who's paying attention to the guy who is in charge of placing background cars in the various scenes of a film.

In two places in this film we see the same car in the background under circumstances which don't justify the same car at two different times. At the very beginning there appears a '47 Cadillac convertible (with top down). Later in the film the same car appears (this time with top up). The circumstances would seem to argue that this would be an extrodinary conicidence. Later, a '51 or '52 Cadillac coupe appears twice passing the same spot within a minute or so. The only explanation I can come up with (other than the film budget required the reuse of the same cars) is that this was an early example of product placement. They were both Cadillacs after all. Though they were not new cars.

Just a random observation.

Every day, as I drive around town, I see particular models of different brands of cars more than once. If I stand on a street corner for ten minutes, I'll see several Toyota Camrys, Subaru Outbacks, and Ford F-150s go by. It happens. It's no big deal.
