Ahab keelhauled by Moby

Where did this image of his death first come about so it has essentially replaced the version in the text (of him getting snagged by the neck) it was even in the '98 version with Patrick Stewart.

reply

Screenwriter Ray Bradbury came up with the idea of Ahab being entangled in the ropes while lashed to the whale. Obviously, Bradbury extrapolated the scene from the novel where Ahab's harpooneer, Fedellah, is appears to the crew - also lashed to the side of the whale (one of the book's many earmarks of doom). I think Bradbury's switch is ingenious and obviously, the makers of the 1999 version agreed.

reply

Right. I forgot about Fedellah's death going before Ahab. Thanks.
