COMPARE MOBY DICK WITH THE GREEN MILE

I would be interested in how others would compare MOBY DICK (film and/or book) with THE GREEN MILE (again, film and/or book). They both seem to have interesting parallels, such as Islmael and Paul Edgecombe, but the other similarities are not clean cut. I have a friend who asserts that THE GREEN MILE is to the South what MOBY DICK is to New England. Interesting proposition. Why do you folks out there think?

i havent read either book, but i have seen both movies, and it just doesnt make any sense to compare them, there is no captain ahab like character in the green mile.
john coffey is a force of nature, but metaphysically speaking, nothing like moby dick. in fact moby dick is the opposite of john coffey for one thing moby dick didnt allow himself to be sacrificed for no reason. yes the narrators/leads are nice guys, but nice guys are in just about every movie.

The Green Mile takes place in Maine, not in the South.

Because we were born with a functioning brain. You on the other hand clearly were not. I suggest you see a doctor specializing in malfunctioning brains.

Moby Dick and The Green Mile??? Herman Melville and Stephen King??? You're right. Let's just hope for the OP's sake it's a temporary brain malfunction.
