Confusing Ending (SPOILER WARNING)

Who shot Louie and why? Ending was confusing. What happened to Trent's girlfriend? She was involved if only as an accessory. It seems like some action took place offscreen and it was confusing.

It had to be Paul De Camp the same guy who ran over Trent. Since it will be on in a few days check it out again.
What I would like to know is what happened to Trents girlfriend? She dissapears half way through the film. I thought she was the best character in the whole film! She had that lady gangster look that added something to a rather medicore psuedo-noir film.

It's all fun and games 'till somebody gets hurt!

Just saw this on TCM this morning. I agree that there were some confusing plot points. What I gathered of the ending was this:

Paul was lying in wait for Trent and Louie with a gun (they showed him looking out the window at their arrival). While Trent was distracted looking at Farraday's body in the car, Louie and Betty went inside and there were off-screen gunshots. I'm sure the creators wanted to leave you guessing who was shot. At the end of the movie you see Paul in a police car and Louie with a sheet over his head on a stretcher, and Betty runs up and hugs Tommy. So apparently Paul shot Louie (had to get the muscle out of the way so that he could get to his real target, Trent).

I believe it was the mystery man in the trenchcoat who ran over Trent, not Paul. He was at the scene watching from behind the wheel of his car. I also believe that Paul must have been the one who killed Farraday, as revenge for the combination of offenses of cheating with his girlfriend and giving Trent the information about his safe deposit box. The part that escapes me is what, if any, relationship existed between the mystery man and Paul. I never did catch this character's name.

Hope this helps!

This movie was boring enough, I really didn't care who shot Louie.
