BIG EALING FAN,BOUGHT DVD COMMENTS

As I have said in my comments on other Ealing and similar British films of that era I used to love as a teenager having the house to myself on Saturday afternoons and watching the Ealing film that the BBC so often showed then.

But I don't recall this film,I think it was not shown as often as the others,it is certainly not as well known as many other Ealing films.

I bought the dvd and am a little disappointed.
I will give no plot spoilers but I did not like the film much,Hawkins played a stiff upper lip character which he could have done in his sleep and the film could have been made in 1947 for it seems dated for its year of production.
Unlike many Ealing films watching this one today tells us little about society when it was made and I think it deserves to be little known.

I've just watched the film after recording it off Talking Pics TV, I agree that it is disappointing in some respects and has dated. However, I was impressed with Elizabeth Sellars as the dutiful but anguished wife. For me she is the best thing in it.
