2 points need explaining

1. Why did the Draytons stare at the McKennas when coming out of the hotel when seeing them for the FIRST time? (They didn't appear to be on the bus). The Mrs. got into the carriage and nudged the man to show him the McKennas. Apparently he didn't recognize them.(Why would he anyhow?) 2. When Dr. McKenna gets the phone call (I think by the bad prime minister)saying that his boy will be harmed if he reveals what Louis Bernard told him.
Question is, how did anyone know what Bernard told him? Even the Draytons were not close enough to hear.
Did the Drayton's know who Bernard was? I don't recall that fact ever being revealed.

Just a couple of things that I always wondered about each time I watched this great movie(mostly).

The first point is answered in the film. Mrs. McKenna was a famous performer who had appeared on the London stage. Mrs. Drayton recognized her from that.

For the second point. Mr. Drayton was standing next to Mr. McKenna after Mr. McKenna got the dying message from Louis Bernard. I don't recall if he could have seen exactly what McKenna was writing, but he saw that he was writing something. They either knew or had suspicions that Bernard worked for an Intelligence Agency.

Think about it... If the Draytons didn't know who Bernard was, why was he killed?

As for your first question,I think it's clear that the Draytons had absolutely no intention of involving the McKennas in their business when the couples first arrived in Morocco. They became forced to get involved because they saw Bernard whisper to McKenna. They could only assume that he'd whispered something incriminating; that's why the Draytons panicked and kidnapped Hank. We know from the conversation with the ambassador after the opera scene that the Draytons did that by their own judgment. When they first saw the McKennas, the only motive they had for making their acquaintance would be to help them lay low. They had no way of knowing the McKennas would be there; but of course, they knew who they were.

Looking back, this film is very well written and thought out (unlike many of Hitchcock's).

I do think as another poster said that Mrs Drayton recognized Doris day (mrs McKenna) because she had been very famous and struck up a convo with them because they were star struck never knowing what would happen with Bernard until it did and then they had no choice but to take the son to make sure that if the doctor wrote down something about the assassination they would have the son as insurance that he wouldn't talk. It was a last minute decision to take him.
