Rifle question

Hi it's been a while since I've seen this but I remember Robert Taylor using a massive Winchester rifle. I was wondering if this was a Model 1886 since he was hunting buffalo with it and it used a .45-90 bullet.

I've seen a Model '86 Winchester rifle in the Monte Walsh remake and in a recent episode of Pawn Stars and they didn't really look as big as Robert Taylor's. I was just wondering if it was an '86 or maybe something else.

The rifle used by Robert Taylor's character Charlie Gilson was the model 1876 Winchester, aka the Centennial Model. In one scene you can plainly see the characteristic elongated reciever and modified side plate. He's probably shooting the popular .45-60 cartridge, enough power to take out a buffalo. There were some '76 Winchesters on the Montana/Dakota buffalo range during the time period of this movie (1883). The '86 Winchester came too late for the Montana/Dakota hunts, which were over by 1884.
