The Naked City is the best crime movie

To watch the wife of a cop. In this film I couldn't get past Rhonda Fleming saying her lines every time like she was making a speech to a crowd of people. It didn't seem real. It bugged me. TCM shows the film The Naked City often and I love it. The cops wife is fun to watch and dressed for the weather too which is rare. Most movie wives look like Flemming does.Dressed for a night of bridge with the neighbors. The entire film is so real. Shot on the streets of NYC with real people not extras going about their lives in the background. It's one of my favorite b&w films.

I beg to differ! The Naked City is one of my favorites also;
but that is New York. I like this movie because the location is in
Los Angeles in 1956!

I so miss the era when women dressed like Ladies, fashionable and
elegant without everything hanging out!

Here's a little fashion trivia: Women wore gloves back then, not only
as part of a fashionable outfit; but because it also protected your hands from the sun.

Gloves prevented your hands from drying out and getting,
those ugly brown liver spots from the sun that you see on
your hands as you start aging.

As for Ms. Fleming's delivery of her lines....well even if you don't think
she's the greatest actor in the world, she brought a certain tension to
the role. Just by virture of the subject matter, filming location,
the time era, etc., made this film chilling and enjoyable.

It had a very interesting story line; although some of the scenes
should have been re-written, and shot to make them more believable.

Oh c'mon guys, this movie wasn't made to be perfect it was made to entertain crowds at drive in theaters in the mid 50's when drive in theaters was most popular. It really was a good movie though I must admit, totally underrated. I'm glad I had a friend DVR it for me. Halleujuah for besties lol

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

The scenes between Cotten and Fleming are really blandly written, drawn-out and annoying. Fleming's such an irritating presence, especially in the end when she goes and does a really stupid thing by trying to get back home and throwing the entire set-up into a confusion as nobody expected her to be there.
