Why Percy Killbride left the series...

He retired. That's it. He had enough. Legend has it that he did one more small role nearly 8 years later in "The Son of Flubber," but it's been so long since I've seen it that I couldn't say for sure. He died in 1964 of head injuries suffered when he was hit by a car while walking with a friend.
