Are you recording on your dvd recorder like I am?
Sadly, I just caught the last 30 minutes. The
main review on this site for this movie is
quite critical, ie, negative. What I saw
was pretty good. Live action mixed with
animation must have been pretty innovative
at the time. I once heard that it was first
done on in Mary Poppins with Dick Van Dyke.
Well, apparenlty not. Kelly's dancing was
also quite impressive.
Yes, I only saw the last half-hour of it as well and it was the Sinbad animated story and I was quite impressed! Gene Kelly had already danced with cartoon characters - I believe in the 1940s, he danced with Jerry Mouse (of Tom and Jerry) in ANCHORS AWAY, so he was already use to the process. And Kelly during the animated scenes was flawless! And I give credit to Joseph Barbara as well. I seriously doubt this can be duplicated today despite the advances in film technology.
shareI also saw this film today l and even though I a huge fan of Gene Kelly's he could have shortened some of this.The "Ring Around the Rosy" dance sequence really went on too long while the sequence with him and the young boy as sailors dancing was too short.I enjoy animation but the kid was very impressive in keeping up with a great dancer like Kelly and I was disappointed he was not brought back into the story.
