A fourth episode might have been planned but only three were filmed: 1) The Circus 2) Ring Around the Rosy 3) Sinbad the Sailor. The film was filmed primarily in England. MGM wanted to appease one of its most popular stars (after his triumphs in "An American in Paris" and "Singin' in the Rain.") But MGM was never comfortable with the project and when new management came in, saw it and HATED it, they put in the shelf for more than three years. It was finally given limited distribution on the art-house circuit in late '55 or '56 and sank from sight. By that time, and with failure of Kelly and Stanley Donen's "It's Always Fair Weather," the MGM musical unit had been dismantled and Kelly was no longer a major star. He appeared mostly in dramatic roles, beginning with "Inherit the Wind," from then on, finishing up in the campy musical "Xanadu" in 1980. For more information, get the DVD of "American in Paris," which has a lengthy documentary on Kelly and focuses on this film.
