Casey Adams - Ward Clever??

Casey Adams (Lt "Dick" Chasen) was a pretty cool guy! Here's a cat that was never without a check in the 50's. He had a few meaty roles here and there and never seemed to hit it big sadly...
His all but "cameo" role in "Monster That Challenged the World" added up to nothing...Go figure.
Do any of you know that he was the first choice for Ward Clever in "Leave it to Beaver?".......In the pilot ( It's a Small World) he played Ward, smoking jacket and all!.....He put an edge on the Ward character that was more "realistic" but, hell, no one will ever replace Hugh Beaumont...
If you ever have a chance to see the pilot (It's on the first season DVD set of Leave it to Beaver), do so. Let's just say that Casey made good cops and first mates - but he wouldn't have flown as Ward Clever!
