Sparta and the Sea

In the movie Sparta appears to be near the coast. In fact it is very inland, and even today takes a few hours to drive from Sparta to the coast

Well, it is not necessarily the city called ''Sparta'' but a country. Still, in reality these are not the same Spartans as the three hundred but the people they conquered. The people of Lacedaemon, or Sparta, were conquered by the Dorian invaders who made them into ''helots'' (little more than slaves).

To be fair King Angantyr most of the Helots were actually Dorian Greeks as well who were part of the same migration into Lacedaemon, however you are correct that most of the survivng non-Dorians did become Helots.

Yes, you are indeed correct. The Spartans were horrid enough to make their own people into helots - pretty much all of the Dorians in the countryside were helots.

This film is set a couple Generations before the Dorian invasion.

Yes, you are correct that this is set before the Dorian invasions. No one has said otherwise.
