Awful comedy that seems to have been part of an annoying trend back then

I saw this movie and The Seven Year Itch and hated both. What I disliked was how this and TSYI seemed to be copying the manic style of Tex Avery, who was a famous director who did shorts in the 1940s. The thing about those cartoons is that the over the top reactions and goofy sound effects worked because the characters' body language and expressions were greatly exaggerated. But having human beings act like cartoon characters is just corny and obnoxious. Like, imagine a live action comedy that's packed with cutaway gags like in Family Guy or The Simpsons and you'll know what I mean.
