The lovely Altair

When I first saw this movie as a kid in my middle teen years I thought Altair was quite hot. But watching the film now I really don't see the attraction. Anyone else find that or do you still think she was pretty hot?

But to be more serious her costumes. Were they too short for the time? Didn't the censor people kick up a fuss about her very short dress in this movie?

The Lone Gunmen would certainly say she's hot!

Honey West?????

I've been watching Forbidden Planet ever since I was a little kid. Altair has always looked very beautiful to me.

Guys, the girl's name is ALTAIRA -- not "Altair", which is the name of the (real) sun that planet Altair-4, where she and her father live, orbits.

Anne Francis -- the actress whose name nobody also seems to remember -- was in my opinion very distinctively good-looking and sexy, but of course such things are all a matter of personal taste. But I believe her outfits did cause a bit of a stir when the film came out in 1956.

What's wrong with my clothes? I designed them myself.

Funny, she's grown up with just her dad and a robot, no other men around, yet she wears skimpy outfits, puts on makeup, and her hair is perfectly styled.

reply

Well, she has probably seen pictures from earth. And be sure, women don't wear skimpy outfits and makeup just for men, they just enjoy wearing them. Robby might be her hairdresser.

A girl isn't going to pretty herself up unless she's trying to attract a mate.

reply

In my remake, Dr. Morbius (played by an actress) will have a son who won't be prettied up to attract a mate, but will fall for one of the Colonial Marines (also played by an actress) - maybe Ferro or Dietrich?

reply

If she was raised by her father, she should dress in a more masculine way or at the very least, not as feminine as she dresses.

I still think she's hot but I'm not a fan of her 50s style hairdos. That's why I think she's at her hottest when she emerges from the swimming pool with her hair all wet.

I can imagine her skimpy dress would have caused a fuss, but also the fact that she walks around barefoot through most of the movie as it evokes the whole image of the young barefoot girl/sexual object thing.

reply

And with her wet hair she has star-eyes.
That's why the commander couldn't resist kissing her.

When re-issued in the Children's Matinee release in 1972 some of her shots were actually cut from the print, apparently to get a "G" rating. One of her running in the short dress comes to mind. I guess that indicates she was pretty hot.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

At 9 years old when the movie came out, I liked Anne Francis well enough, but I wasn't quite sure what she was for. Sort of my reaction to Penny in Sky King, and Princess Summerfall Winterspring in Howdy Doody. Not too much later I figured it out.

That delicately beautiful face. And a body that could melt a cheese sandwich from across the room. And breasts that seemed to say... "Hey! Look at these!" She was the kind of woman who made you want to drop to your knees and thank God you were a man! She reminded me of my mother, all right. No doubt about it.

at first, I didnt think she looked that good either. but in the one scene when she comes out of the pool she actually looks very hot because she doesn't have as much makeup on. she was just overly made up for most of the movie.

reply

you guys are a bunch of queers.

reply

Ann Francis was one of the hottest women of that time. If you don't know her work, I suggest you check out a little spy series called "Honey West"

reply

I thought Altair was quite hot.

I still do. Nearly 37 years after I first thought Altaira was "quite hot".

Same goes for Barbarella ;)
