Lack of Extras on Criterion Edition...

Does anyone else find the few extras for the DVD release of "And God Created Woman" disappointing? Criterion Edition releases are known for great supplemental material, but all this DVD has, aside from a beautiful new transfer, is a trailer. Considering how this was the legendary break-out film for both Bardot and Vadim, I find this lack of special treatment a bit baffling.

Well, considering the movie is 50 years old, maybe there wasn't any extra available...

The film was made over 50 years ago and it was in France. I highly doubt if Americans have rights to the cut scenes.

Viva Bardot!

BS, they are lots of extras to find or create for such an old movie. I'm sure they would dig it out of vaults or go hunting for living people who worked anything on this film.

Real reason is simply that Criterion didn't release their movies with extras much at the beginning. Probably the first 100 spine numbers are rather lousy for extra and even transfers (not to mention the letterbox formats) unless the were previously on LaserDisc. Should the movie ever get a re-release (on Blu even) then it would get extras.

It's curious that on the Restoration Featurette on the Criterion disc, it mentions that Roger Vadim was present during the process. It's surprising Criterion didn't take advantage of his presence and try to at least get an on camera interview or a commentary about the film.
