That scene certainly isn't from EVtFS, and I know of no remakes. And besides, I don't see how such a scene would fit in the movie.

Can you remember any other details, scenes, or actors from the film you saw?

hmmm confused :S... in the ray harry housen book i have theres sketches of small pods flying into a mans house. and apparently they were later changed to "flying balls of light" so i figured what id seen was remarkably similar but not from the 50s so must have been a re-make. (its not independance day)

and no sorry cant remember much about it. must have seen it when i was 5-6 or something. just that scene left me sleepless for nights lol :P

The balls of light in EvFS were called "Foo Lights" (I believe this was a distortion of "Foo Fighters", which was a common term back in WWII and into the 1950s, essentially meaning "UFO" ). They didn't suck the life out of anyone though. They were primarily observation devices in the film.

rock hero666,

I think you may be getting a few scenes from the movie mixed up, which can happen since you saw the movie at a young age. There are "balls of light" observed around Operation Skyhook, and later in a science lab. They were thought to have been Saint Elmo's fire, but it's later realized they are devices the aliens use to spy on the scientists. The main scientist's wife is present during this scene, but her life isn't sucked out of her. There's also a scene in which the wife's father has his entire memory sucked out of him by an alien device. It makes him something of a zombie, but it doesn't kill him.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but two movies that come to mind are:

"Fiend without a Face" (1958) has no glowing balls that I can recall.
Instead, there are invisible creatures that do the sucking and become
visible later in the movie.

"Lifeforce" (1985) has glowing balls that may (?) turn into space
vampires that do the sucking.

Perhaps you are thinking of "Strange Invaders".

No...I think the op is thinking of CAPE CANAVERAL MONSTERS and I am embarrassed that I know this......glowing spheres, about the size of baseballs, turn a man and a wife into zombies and force them to ruin cape canaveral or something. It was made for about 2 dollars. (Well, it looked it)
