Is it safe to say that this is the first Post-Apocalyptic Movie?

Is it?

This film, while it was very good, and I enjoyed it immensely, was not the first such film.

I'm certain that there were earlier films than these, but there were also two filmms made in the early 1950's. One was When Worlds Collide (1951) and then there was the film made in 1952 that was called either Captive Women or 3000 A.D. CW went by both titles.

Like I say, I'm certain that there were earlier films than these, but I don't know what they are.

Do you like this type of story? I love them.

First "post-Apocalyptic" movie was probably Things To Come (1936). Though I would not be surprised to discover something of that nature was done in the silent days. "...there is no new thing under the sun." (Ec 1:9)

He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good... St. Matthew 5:45

I believe the first post-apocalyptic movie due to atomic warfare was FIVE that came out in 1951

The intrepid explorers in "Rocketship X-M" (1950) find themselves going to Mars instead of the Moon due to a meteor storm messing with their navigation. There they find remains of an advanced Martian civilization destroyed by atomic war and the survivors reverted to radiation scared cavemen. So, it's not an Earthly atomic apocalypse, rather a Martian one.......
