Curucu is a cheat, but what hoot!
It's too bad that thr monster is revealed to be a hoax to scare people. But who came up with the idea of making this monster a cross between a toucan and a warthog????!!!!!!!!!!
shareWhen I was a kid, the second the TV Guide came in the mail, I'd check to see what the Frday nght creature feature would be next week. And whenever I saw Curucu (or even worse, Terror of the Bloodhunters) listed, I'd silently respond wth every swear word in my then-limited repitoire. But I did develop a fondness for Curucu over repeated viewings...Beverly Garland tries harder than this dreck deserves, the late-night cheese/camp appeal is there (at least intermittently), the Daliesque monster is jaw-droppingly bizarre looking, and I like Tom Payne very much as Tupanico--he's very much the conflicted dandy and the hat and silk shrts suit him, and he brngs dignity to the character. The twist ending and Beverly Garland's appalled exclamation of the flm's final line didnhave an effect on me as a kid, every time. finally got a copy of ths recently and inflicted it on a friend durng one of our horror movie marathons.
By the way, the trailer is a hoot...it brays "CURUCU...LUSTING BEAST OF THE AMAZON!!!"
I know this is a bit off the Curucu topic, but I used to do the same with TV Guide looking for the Friday Night Frights movies.
One thing that always stood out was the listing for "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman", and it was always the same; "The attack, such as it is, comes in the closing moments of this 1950s melodrama".
Don't know why but it always struck me as funny and I hadn't thought of it in some time until I read that post
Lol...I remember that 50ft Woman summary word-for-word, and always wondered why it was uncommonly curt.

I always thought it was a B/W movie . Anyway the Piranha eating that arm I thought was in a Tarzan film sine I havent seen this in 30 years .
And that surprise ending .
