I'm watching it right now on 108, carefully muting when the host shows up. I have no tolerance for this man!

I might have seen this in b&w during my childhood in the Fifties/early Sixties, but I simply do not remember if I did.

That's unusual for me if I forgot about it because I was a film buff-in-training thanks to my father who seemed to know every actor and practically every movie, certainly remembering every one he had seen. He would have loved TCM and other cable channels! I recall that we used to watch films on early HBO repeatedly; HBO used to have only about five or six movies that were rotated throughout the month. Also back then, it came on in the afternoon and ended not that late at night.

Dad, who was only 47 when he died, learned about movies from his mother, who died in her early 40s. It might sound silly, but I always wished that he had lived long enough to see "Star Wars" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". He loved science fiction most of all and would have been delighted with the return to that genre. Every time there was a sci fi film at the drive-in (rarely in the theater back then), we always caught it. Who knows? "Curucu" (sort of SF/horror like "Creature from the Black Lagoon") might have been among them.

Hello there again MystMoonstruck and welcome !! 

I'm sorry you lost your Dad at such a young age I very much understand  .

I do agree watching these classic films with our parents was always such a wonderful time back in the days .
Even now watching these films ( and although they can't be with us here anymore ) can still be a treasured memory of the good times we had watching it with them just the same  .

I had no idea this movie was going to be in color because the movie trailer I posted here from YouTube was in black and white .
So I just assumed the movie was in black and white  .

So far it's an interesting film and reminds me of the " Creature Double Feature " program that was shown Saturday afternoons in the 1970's
( no doubt this one was most likely shown on that show at some point ?  ) .

Does anyone here notice that actor John Bromfield bares a bit of a resemblance to memorable actor Rod Taylor in this film ?  

I'm glad to see that former Twilight Zone actress Beverly Garland was in this film too  .

reply

Hello, ms-zanadu. 

I always thought John Bromfield looked a lot like Larry Pennell, of the Ripcord TV series.

Loved Sven's bit with Dawn Wells!   

reply

I watch movies I've seen before to see Sven's "extras"!

Edit: one thing I don't understand is how, "in this day and age", he gets away with the old songs he parodies! I remember them and I like the parodies but I'm probably older than him. Maybe you don't need to know the original for the parody to be funny.

reply

Hey there jamesbwill so glad you are joining us here again tonight  !

I so agree actor John Bromfield does bare a most uncanny resemblance to actor Larry Pennell .
It looks like they could have been brothers even  .

So many look alike actors in Hollywood I guess  .

Actress Dawn Wells still looks really pretty after all these years too  .

 Oh no Beverly Garland's character being carried off by the evil Toucan Sam Twin  !!

WHEW ! That was a close one  .

I'd hate to see the Toucan Sam Twin  walk into a salon and ask for a manicure!

  I wonder what nail polish color Toucan Sam's evil twin ( he or she ) would ask for ?    

Whenever there's a lull in this movie, you can always count on a snake to show up.

 If it isn't the snakes it's being chased by the unfriendly locals too ?   

You said it jamesbwill  !!

Have a great night and the rest of this weekend everyone !!  

That was an interesting scene with the snake trying to squeeze the life out of that animal (looked like a badger but can't be right? Not in those parts of the world) or was it stock footage. Looks real though.

Ms-Zanadu, pardon my tardy reply.

Yes, I am so glad for Svengoolie on account of experiences like this; watching "Curucu, Beast of the Amazon". This movie was so odd and exciting and enjoyable to watch! The beast design was startling as was the Point Of View photography moments, what a surprise.

Recently I was also blown away watching "Shadow Of The Cat", too. A mystery like no other!

And, thank you for looking in to my links! It's always good for like minded individuals to listen in!

That's totally fine TunnelKeeperOfDoom it's like the old song
" better late than never "  .

Fashionably late is also acceptable in my old school book too   .

Sven's choice of films are a definite classic popcorn good time set of flicks   .

They just don't make films like these anymore  .

Are you watching this weekends Sven movie this Saturday as well ? 
