John Cassavetes

He was about 10 years older than his character.

And, boy, did he look it. But what a great performance!

Oh, come on you guys. Cassavetes was 27 years old in 1956, the year of release, which means he could have been 26 when the film was shot. That's not wildly over what his 18-year-old character was supposed to represent. Yes, he looked older than 18, but nowhere near noticeably as how over-aged Stockard Channing looked while playing a high schooler in GREASE. Cassavetes fit in well enough with the rest of the boys of his gang, as far as being in the same general age range. Sal Mineo was one of the few who really looked like a teen-ager.

Cassavetes looked ten years older - to put it mildy - than his character.
Great performance from a man who was way too old for the part.

Two of us have noted the obvious. Please get over it.

Being remade as "Teenage Mormons in Heat".

Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.
