We should give thanks...

...simply that such a wonderful entertainment exists. Let's face it. Without these nutty hollywood vanity projects, the world would be a slightly duller place. Actors like John Wayne and John Travolta (Battlefield Earth) weren't ordered to make these movies. They grabbed these bulls by the horns and hit the groung running. Now you look at someone like Paul Newman's first movie The Silver Chalice. That was unfortunate, but still had a happy ending. The real villian of The Conqueror was the script writer. The dialog SUCKED!!! It doesn't matter who spoke the lines. Yul Brynner, who would have been a more apt choice to play Temajin, would have looked bad.

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

You of course are correct, the dialogue is bad; but somehow I think Yul Brenner could have made it work, by inserting his enormous persona into it. For reference, see The Ten Commandments :)
