Barbara Ruick

Not much mention on these pages of the lovely and cute Barbara Ruick, who sang the memorable When I Marry Mr Snow in Carousel.

Barbara signed a contract with MGM in the early fifties but was hardly used by that studio, only doing a few TV shows from time to time. Then right out of the blue came a call to play the renowned Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel, in which role Barbara shone. She had a really nice voice, pity it wasn't used more often.

But after her memorable performance in Carousel, her popularity rather surprisingly faded very soon afterwards and Barbara had a very disappointing career afterwards also ........I just don't understand why that was. Barbara's whole acting career was a complete waste as she was such a talented musical actress/singer.

Her career highlight was undoutedly playing Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel, but the very talented Barbara should have had a much more successful career in films......if only she had the breaks that was needed for he to succeed..............she sadly passed away in her early 40's in 1974, during filming a rare screen appearance.

Her career and apparently her life was not meant to be. Which is very sad indeed.

She was dating John Williams while filming "Carousel" and married him soon thereafter. She may have put her acting career on a back burner. She had another memorable supporting role in a Rodgers and Hammerstein production, the 1965 version of "Cinderella," playing one of the step-sisters.

Her rendition of "Mister Snow" is wonderful.

Williams never remarried.

Wouldn't you really rather have a Ruick than any other kind of star?
