What's the quality like of the 'PR Studios' DVD?

I've seen it available on Amazon, and was wondering if someone could offer an opinion about the overall quality? Is it in its correct CinemaScope aspect ratio? And if so, is it letterboxed or anamorphic? I have the pan-and-scan version from archive.org but if the PR Studios DVD is 2.35:1, I'd definitely prefer to get it.

I was wondering the same thing, and came here hoping to find an answer. The Amazon site says "widescreen", but with no aspect ratio given, and anyway Amazon frequently gets data like that wrong (calling a film widescreen when it isn't, labeling it color when it's black & white, etc.). I read the buyer reviews there and while they were mixed about the quality of the DVD (most liked it, a few didn't), not one mentioned anything about its being widescreen or not. Apparently this is a bootleg transfer from an old laser disc, which probably means it is widescreen, though possibly not anamorphic. The proper A.R. is 2.35:1, so if this disc is widescreen but not the correct aspect ratio, I'd probably skip it.

So, does anybody know for sure?

I periodically go searching thru these old kids flix hoping upon hope that I will find a shred of info on one Joe Zadravitz. You ever hoid a him? He was a dinosaur modeler and miniature tech back in the day. I have been everywhere I can think of and no one knows anything about him. Too much torture to endure after all these years. And no, I am not kidding, that was the guy's name.

Believe it or not, the name rings a very faint bell, ringing around the rocks in my head. Did he have anything to do with this here dino film? Lost Continent, perhaps? I'd expect IMDb The Infallible would have something on him somewhere. I'll try to see if I can find anything on him. Or actually I might be confusing him with one of Stalin's purge victims. Ehh, either way.

Thanx for the effort. I donot know if he had anything to do with this one.

I looked him up in Bill Warren's book Keep Watching the Skies, but no dice. I checked both indexes under Z but didn't see the name, just zzzzzz'ed off. I may have been thinking of Lee Zavitz. However, I'll keep an eye, and a banana, peeled.

Addendum: I just looked for "Joe Zadravitz" in this film's cast and crew, then on a general IMDb search. No dice. The closest I got was director Joe Ravitz and miscellaneous crewman Joe Kravitz, last year's lifetime achievement award winner at the Oscars for his decades of miscellaneous contributions to the industry. Sure you got the right name?

reply

I looked up Lee Zavitz and he seems to fit most criteria of who this guy was. Even read an article in 1956 edition of Popular Mechanics. My wife continues to believe his name was Zadravitz and when I tell her repeatedly there's no one anywhere with that handle that was an fx guy she says maybe he didn't use his actual name. So, there's nothing more I can do. But this Lee Zavitz even lives in the area she did when she was growing up. So, what's a husband to do??
