A bearded Captain Langsdorff ?

In all of the photos that I have ever seen, I do not recall a bearded Captain Langsdorff. Why would the Producers take such Stupid Liberties with a supposed Historically Accurate Movie and then Play with the Facts.

How many of the photos show him at sea in the Graf Spee? He is clean shaven towards the end of the film when they're in Montevideo. Maybe he just grew his facial fungus while they were at sea
