Eli Wallach is About as Sicilian as Estelle Getty

It doesn't take away from the film's greatness but watching it I thought, "You'd have to be from Mississippi to think that this guy is Sicilian.

and he's about as Southern as Archie Bunker. :-p

He's supposed to be this highly trained method actor but he couldn't disguise his Brooklyn accent? It was so distracting hearing him go from Brooklynese to a Texan twang and back. Karl Malden and Carroll Baker both did a great job with their accents and characters. Carroll's performance, in particular, made this movie.

I thought Eli Wallach was pretty sexy in this film. That was the only reason why I even saw it.

Eli Wallach was HOT HOT HOT in this. I didn't feel like being picky about his accent. Also, I have seen Sicilian men who look like he did.

reply

Interesting. I never exactly thought of him as a 'heartthrob' type of actor.

Agree with the OP.

Unless you are simply a master at accents, you shouldn't even attempt one. So many performances by so many actors mar films when they mangle attempted accents.

Since I have no clue of what a sicilian is really suppose to sound like, for once, I'm so happy to be here in the dark.
All I know is that what he lacked in accent, he made up for in SEX! He had me breathing fire!

He's as Sicilian as Peter Falk and James Caan are Italian.

I read on wiki that Karl was of Serbian and Czech descent I believe. I thought he was Irish. I think Eli was Jewish.
