I just noticed how long everyone is this movie lived. The two male lead actors, Karl Malden and Eli Wallach, both almost hit the 100 mark, the director died at 94, Carrol Baker is still alive at 83, Mildred Dunnock died at 90.
shareI noticed this too. So often with films that are 50+ years old, many of their actors aren't still here with us. Most of the people involved here lived especially long lives.
I first saw this movie in 2010, and both Wallach and Baker were still alive (Baker still is). It's especially unusual for Wallach considering this was his first film, and he was 40 years old when he made it. Rip Torn was also featured in the movie in his first screen appearance, and he's still alive as well— I believe he and Baker are the same age.
Obviously God was not as offended by the movie as Cardinal Spellman. There's a surprise!
