Is this like the 1997 animation film?

Don't laugh, I'm serious. I really love that version and apparently this film was the basis for the animation.

I love some of the outfits Anya wears in the 1997 version and noticed similarities between the two versions l

Yes it is similar, but there are still many differences. The similar outfits usually coincide with the royal outfits that the characters wear (since those are the actual clothes that would have been worn). The basic plot is the same, but in this version they travel to Copenhagen since that's where the Dowager Empress really lived, not Paris. There are no songs. And there is hardly any mention of Rasputin. He is not made out to be the villain in this one (because he didn't put a curse on the family). Basically, this movie is more historically accurate except for the main plot which is that Anastasia survived. It is a 'what if' story and I love both this version and the animated version because the story is fun.
