Best Martin/Lewis movie?

After watching all of the Martin/Lewis movies I could get my hands on, this seems to be the best of the bunch.

Anyone agree/disagree?

I like this movie! Also "That's My Boy" and "Living It Up". All were over-the-top funny.

reply

Agreed! This is most entertaining.

I think Living It Up is the best. But this and Artists & Models are also huge favourites of mine.

I would say 3 Ring Circus too, but I haven't seen it on years because it's NOT ON DVD!!!

Have to agree, as well, or at least to place You're Never Too Young up there with the best of the Martin/Lewis movies.

And that would be because it has a great screenstory, which Wilder adapts from his humble Major and Minor beginnings, and because Dean's character has good reason to act authoritative, and Jerry's character at least has an excuse to act goofy and childish.

Other co-stars act nice and professionally in other Martin/Lewis releases, but this one's outstanding cast cannot be applauded enough for its fine work, individually and collectively.

It cracked me up that people couldn't tell that Jerry Lewis was a grown man !

Definitely my fav jerry Lewis movie. To this day, I still quote lines from the movie. There are so many lol scenes.
*Francisor the barber
*giving the woman the "full scalp treatment"
* when he takes the 12 yr old boy out back to show him his ray gun!!!
*taking over the "march' with the girls.
*Meeting the board for the 1st tine "oh look, swords".
*the telephone call on the switch board."Karen darling, how divine to talk to u again, let's get together for a rousing game of mahjong"
*taking over the orchestra " I never like to travel, by automobile or bike"...

So many funny moments...

Martin & Lewis movies in order of best to worst ---

1. Sailor Beware (easily their best film as the show us how their act may have looked live, plus The boxing prep and boxing scene with James Dean in a small role, when Jerry talks "I fought 100 fights...etc." HILARIOUS !!!

2. Scared Stiff (1952) (remake of Bob Hope's Ghostbreakers almost line for line is really funny but the musical numbers with Carmen Miranda steal the show - plus Lizabeth Scott in her bathing attire give me a Woody.)

3. Artists & Models (1955) great color film with Frank Tashlin direction with sexy Dorothy Malone and Shirley MacLaine and Eva Gabor make me drool --- the movie is very very entertaining .)

4. Money From Home (1953) their 1st color film and shot in 3D Damon Runyon story taken to insanity --- great comedy stuff as Jerrys a horse Doctor apprentice getting involved with cousin Dean and gangsters --- Marjie Millar again gives me a stiffy ---

5. The Caddy (1953) Funny lil movie involving Jerrys fear of crowds while playing Golf --- Dean sings That's Amore with Jerry and plays better golf than most anyone --- oh yeah Beautiful Donna Reed is absolutely stunningly gorgeous in this film and more than almost any other M&L female lead gives me huge Wood and makes me have to take care of it ---

6. My Friend Irma (1949) Great comedy Marie Wilson and Diana Lynn are the boner givers in this one.

.7. Living it Up (1954) More musical than comedy - remake of Carole Lombard's Classic 1937 Nothing Sacred --- Janet Leigh will get you hard in the gold dress ---

8. You're Never Too Young (1955) funny film remake of Ginger Rodgers classic Major and the Minor --- great musical numbers a very gay Fat man chasing Jwrry from California to Washington is worth it alone but seeing beauty Diana Lynn hugging Jerry on the train makes every mans fantasy of his teenage years come to life as you must run off to the toilet while your wife is cooking dinner while you pleasure yourself to thoughts of Diana Lynn being your Jr high teacher giving you HOMEWORK between her thighs --- lovely ---

9. At War with the Army (1950) excellent early Martin and Lewis vehicle --- their service comedies are truly great --- this one will make any guy who ever served remember their time in the orderly room --- it does me - the Army life in this is more believable to me a 10 year Army vet than a film like From Here to Eternity which was total BS ---

10. Jumping Jacks (1952)
11. The Stooge (1951) Could have been a true story of Dean and Jerry --- hmmm
12. My Friend Irma Goes West (1950). Corinne Calvet and a boner that's all I can say about thus hogwash --- watchable though ---
13. Pardners (1956) boring fake cowboy junk.
14. Hollywood or Bust (1956) their last film but not their worst (pretty close though) Anita Ekberg (boner) Pat Crowley (boner) much more than her first offering money from home and Anita's 1st Artists and Models --- the Indian girl in New Mexico has made me squirt numerous times ---
15. That's My Boy (1951). The title and Jerrys appearance are funnier than anything in this boring Stomach ache of a movie --- in French EFFING SUCKS !!!
16. 3-Ring Circus (1954). Starts out great with the boys getting out of the Army and joining a circus with Zsa Zsa Gabor then it turns into the worst friggin waste of technicolor in Paramount history --- absolute FECES --- nothing and I mean nothing is good about this CIRCUS comedy --- so much could have been made with the plot but was truly just turned into piles of DUNG --- SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS !!!

This and Artists and Models were Martin and Lewis's BEST. Excellent physical comedy, clever plot (many of the plots of their other films were pretty much as thin as tissue paper), and the chemistry between the two had been developed perfectly. I could watch these two movies over and over again! 
