Casting- Joel McCrea was too old for the role

Watching this now on Encore, and it seemed like Wyatt was old enough to be Laurie's dad- and way too old for that point in his life (1875/about age 27). Joel McCrea was age 49 when this was made, and Vera Miles (Laurie) was about age 26.
