Other old movies like this in color?

What other movies like this one filmed in the 50's were done in this sort of amazing color? I know Victor Mature did a movie called "Dangerous Mission" with Vincent Price in 54 filmed in Montana that was in beautiful color as well. Was this in glorious technicolor?

I suggest you look at "A Kiss Before Dying" (the original version with Robert Wagner) That too takes place mainly in a small Western town but has scenes way out in the open. It also has the same actress Virginia Leith.

You might also look at "Picnic" which is now available on a fabulous limited edition Blu-ray disc. Another film you might try is "The Trap" which is now out on DVD and Blu-ray. This too combines a crime story with a family melodrama and takes place Out West.

While it might not be in Technicolor, this IS a great movie in a similar "small town America intersects with ruthless underworld" vein:

Like almost all Fox films made after 1954, Violent Saturday was filmed in DeLuxe color, not Technicolor. DeLuxe, along with most other color processes, was essentially a variation on Technicolor. Studios largely moved to their own color systems, all derived from Technicolor, once Technicolor's patent lapsed in 1953, though of course that process continued to be used as well.

Try Bad Day at Black Rock. Great color, wonderful characters, magnificent setting...

Wel, there are so many beautiful colour movies from the fities. I don't know if you specifically mean a heist movie or a story that takes place in a little town, but here are some gorgeous colour movies from that period:

- A kiss before dying (56)
- All that heaven allows (55)
- Written on the wind (55)
- Bigger than life (56)
- Rebel without a cause (55)
- Black widow (54)
- The barefoot contessa (54)
- East of Eden (54)
- To catch a thief (55)
- Vertigo (58)

Well, there are lots more beautiful movies from the fifties. I'm not sure what genre you are looking for, but I picked these movies based on their colour photography. Each one just a series of beautiful paintings in my opinion.

A lot of great ones mentioned...basically, Sirk, Ray, and Minnelli, and the bloke who said Bad Day at Black Rock is spot on (same year, with both Marvin and Borgnine).

I'd like to throw out Hitch's wonderful black comedy The Trouble with Harry.
