Ginger

First off let me make it clear I love Ginger rogers. I didn't think was too old, I didn't mind her haircut, and she looked great. My complaint is that she played this thing like it was a Warners gangster movie from the 30's. It's like she was channeling Joan Blondell or something. Her performance was not really in sync with the rest of the characters. I certainly don't blame her, I blame the director. He should have pulled her back a bit. Other than that, I liked the movie, especially the unexpected twist.

I totally agree with you. Almost ball-twisting annoying. Like watching Lucille Ball go "Wahhhhhhh" for an hour and half.

Yeah she made quite a show of herself and her hammy performance was quite annoying - and, yes, kind of at odds with the rest of characters and picture. In fact, she´s the biggest reason I can´t give the film a higher rating than 6/10. The dialogue also tends to be problematic as tries to be so snappy pretty much all of the time and often it comes out awkward and stilted instead of witty; there´re a few real howlers amongst the lines put in character´s mouths. Could have done without occasional excessive sentimentality, too. Pretty good story though, well shot and mostly well acted; not a worthless second rate noir.

Actually, I was not surprised. As soon as I knew Vince was a dishonest cop, I figured out the ending.
