The upstairs neighbour

Near end of film , the upstairs neighbour knocks on thye door and returns a fish to Frank Sinatra. Does anyone know who it is?? Thanks

The character of the upstairs neighbor, Mr. Loughran (who marries Celeste Holm's character in the end of the film), is played by Tom Helmore. He was probably best known for playing the role of Gavin Elster in Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo," and appeared in several episodes of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" among other films and TV shows.

Darn, beat me to it!

Indeed. He was an amazing actor, in my opinion.

Lol, when I first watched the movie, I thought he had said his name was "Lawford"... I thought that was a slight inside joke from Sinatra (British handsome man holding a fish). HA!

While it's true Sinatra couldn't stand Lawford, he had just married Pat Kennedy when this was made and as much as Sinatra didn't like Peter, he was an intro to the Kennedys, whom Sinatra idolized. When Pat cut him loose in '66, so did Sinatra. I would think Sinatra was still the fair weather friend in '55.

Sinatra actually cut him loose earlier, when JFK was in office. In 1962 Kennedy was supposed to visit Sinatra at his home in Palm Springs- Sinatra even had a helicopter landing pad put in. Kennedy canceled at the request of his brother Bobby, the attorney general, due to Sinatra's mob connections, and stayed with Bing Crosby instead. Sinatra went into a wild rage and held Lawford responsible, and besides cutting him off completely and throwing him out of the Rat Pack, recast Lawford's role in "Robin and the Seven Hoods" with Crosby.

This has also been said to be the basis for Sinatra's big switch from democrat to republican.
