The delicious scene between the actress Desiree and her once-a-great-courtesan mother is as satisfying, witty and fun as anything Oscar Wilde ever wrote. I love this movie and its tender 'knowing' delicate humor. It is certainly NOT for everyone. Which is fine for those of us who love it.

Saw the movie last night. The level of wit and charm in this movie is exceptional and unlikely to be surpassed. That scene you mentioned is a good example of just how sophisticated the writing is.
