I was just wondering if anyone knew if this film, Soldier of Fortune, inspired the recent movie, "Proof of Life" with Meg Ryan, Russell Crowe and David Morse? Having seen the latter movie and read the plot of "Soldier of Fortune", I was struck by the similarity of the two films' plots, namely husband is kidnapped by bad guys and threatened with grim fate while dubious type helps distressed wife recover lost spouse.

@Tobias. great observation. i've seen both films. i came to this board to see if anyone else noticed the similarities; kidnapping for ransom, held in dangerous foreign country, hired handsome guy to negotiate and recover lost spouse, wife falls in love with hired handsome negotiator, negotiator decides to rescue lost husband himself, realizes he's fallen in love with beautiful wife of kidnapped guy, cool weapons used in combat, final escape is a close call for handsome guy, everyone gets home safely. SOF has a true Hollywood ending though which doesn't work for POL. both are good films but i really liked seeing all the old Chinese junks in SOF!
