DVD from Warner Archives 5/14/13

Sincerely Yours has been released on DVD by Warner Archives, available as of May 14, 2013. No extras. Retail price at WBshop.com is $18.95. Most sites boost the retail price of Archives titles to the upper $20s, then put them on "sale" for about what they cost directly from WA.

This really is a pretty terrible movie on all levels, but that may be what makes it fun for some people. Even Liberace didn't much like it.

Ouch!

Sorry America, at Amazon.co.uk the British DVD right now is only £5.48. It pays to get a multi region DVD player!

I agree, a multi-region player is a great asset. I have lots of Region 2s of films unavailable here in the States, so it's great.

That said, assuming one wants to buy Sincerely Yours, a bit of shopping around will normally turn it up for several dollars less than the nominal retail price, though it can require some hunting.

The UK DVD equals almost $8.00; throw in shipping costs (about $3 last I looked on Amazon UK, now $4 in the US), and you're almost up to what you can find the WA disc for. I think a disc made from material direct from the studio's vault, probably with better sound and picture, with the correct running time, and appropriate for one's region, is the better choice for North Americans...not to mention most people don't have a mutli-region deck, another investment.

I'm from the UK and it's very common here to buy multi-region DVD players in the first place, there is loads of choice and they cost almost the same as region 2 locked ones anyway so it's a no brainer!

The quality of the UK "Sincerley Yours" disc is pretty bad - it would disappoint anybody who paid hefty shipping costs to get it!

Yes, in the US Region 0 players are about as cheap as regular R1 players. I'm investigating getting an R0 Blu-ray, not because I plan to get any R2 Blus, but the one player would take care of all likely eventualities.

I'm not too surprised at what you say about the R2 Sincerely Yours. I've heard similar compaints about the quality of the prints of many American films on R2 DVD. My wife is English and thinks R1s generally look better. Interestingly, however, I've found a small handful of American films that are better in R2 than R1 -- usually because they've been letterboxed, whereas for some mysterious reason the R1 versions aren't. Mackenna's Gold, Charley Varrick, Colossus: The Forbin Project come to mind. But this is unusual. Most of my British friends who are really into films have R0 players, mainly so they can get American discs.

I loved the movie! Of course, my Mom and I both loved his piano playing but not his singing. I was fortunately enough to find a copy on DVD from Warner's Archive Collection.
