Shootout with the Royal Navy

I don't know why there wasn't a shootout between Wayne's ship and the Royal Navy? Sure the Duke would have been killed; however, in all the other 8 movies where he die, he always manage to kill some of the other guys.

Wayne's ship didn't have any guns, so it would have been a bit one-sided.

There was a shoot out right there at the end but Wayne's ship didn't have anything to shoot with.

We don't know that he died. If this movie were made today with that narration at the end, there would have been room for a sequel.
