Running time 78 or 102 mins?

The running time for this film is sometimes shown as 78 mins instead of the 102 mins listed here. I have seen the 78 mins version and I think that the whole second reel of the movie was missing. Assuming an average length of 21 mins per 35 mm reel, the first reel was intact, but there was a cut at approx. 21 mins and a break in continuity and an odd jump in the plot. So either the movie was also released in a shorter version, or some elements were indeed missing.

78 mins + possible missing reel of 21 mins = 99 mins. Taking into account PAL speed-up you'd have the proposed running time of 102 mins.

Does anyone know if there actually is a 102 mins version of this movie?

This film includes a spectacular performance by the great Lucia Bosé. Some of the best scenes of her career are in this film. Great black and white cinematography, too.

I was just looking into this as well. The only version I can find anywhere is 78 minutes, but the running time is listed as 102 minutes almost everywhere. Interestingly, the English Wikipedia page for the movie says 102 minutes, while the Italian Wikipedia page says 78 minutes.

Did you get a chance to watch the 78 mins version? I think it's obvious that the second reel (?) is missing. What do you think?

I haven't seen it yet. I was holding out to find a copy with the full run time, but then I forgot about it. I guess I'll go ahead and watch the chopped version soon. I'll get back to you when I do.

A restored version of this film has been released in digital in France (May 2016), I've just seen it and it lasts 80 minutes, which is also the length announced on the web site of the movie theater. What's strange is that the distributor (Tamasa) announces 102 minutes.

When watching the 80 mins version, did you also have the feeling that there was an odd jump in the plot at the 21 mins mark?

No, I haven't noted any odd jump in the plot. But I may not remember very well.
