Was Dean really drinking?

In the James Dean biopic with James Franco, you can see Dean drinking on the set while he was filming Rebel Without A Cause. Is this true? Was Dean really drinking when he made Rebel? Was he ever known to drink on the set while making movies?

I'd like to know the answer to this too. In some of the scenes in this movie he looked TRULY hungover lol I don't know if that's just good acting or if James really was suffering.

Consider the opening shot was done after they had all been up and working for 24 hours straight, he wouldn't need to be drunk, he could've just been exhausted.

i dont know for sure, but he had bags under his eyes, and kinda looked a little hungover, but maybe thats just how he looked (he looked like that in some of his other scenes from other movies as well)- it could be the drinking or maybe he just didnt sleep much.
