Rebel Without a Cause Confrontation in deserted mansion

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD

I feel kind of guilty about this, but is there anyone else who hoped that gang member Crunch (Frank Mazzola) got killed when Plato shot him?

I thought he was a cowardly, sadistic a-hole who got what was coming to him.He and two other hoods were threatening to beat Plato with chains. What a creep!

Not to mention his intended though unspecified violent revenge on Jim Stark, irrationally blaming Jim for Buzz's death in the chickee run.I wondered if he was willing to go as far as to kill Jim.He seemed pretty psychotic.

The fact that you wished death on Crunch shows what a great job Mazzola did with his part. He was a true "Method" actor in that he was drawing on his own life experience as a real gang member....I thought he was just great...loved when he said the line " a comedienne Buzz "....

I wouldn't have minded it one bit. He lived to cause trouble and had no reedeming qualities whatsoever. And blaming Jim for what happened to his buddy was just an excuse for him to hurt someone. He deserved to trade places with Plato at the end.
