Did anybody else find Pete's fondness for his cornet a bit over the top? I'm especially thinking of the scene at the party where he throws the tantrum over Janet Leigh's character taking it from him.

Not at all - any musician worth his salt is very protective, if not "over the top", about who handles his instrument. Other people should be just as careful when anybody wants to handle their personal instruments, its just a hygiene thing! ( and a lot more than that!!!)
