Criterion collection

I really wish Criterion or Kino would release the Apu trilogy with high definition and respectable subtitle translations. I have yet to see any of them, but from what I hear they are some of the best cinema period, and essential to lovers of the art.

There is an inferior release, but it would be nice to see criterion do their treatment on a truly deserving film.

I have emailed Criterion about it (and the utter lack of any Indian films in the Collection) and I got a reply saying they are hard at work trying to fix this.

What this means is up to you...

Believe me, you don't want Hannibal Lecter inside your head."

I was pretty surprised too that this wasn't on Criterion. Hopefully they WILL fix this.

they've said that they have the rights to some Ray films but they wont tell anyone. Hopefully they'll release the entire Apu trilogy

It looks like they'll be doing "The Music Room" this summer, but doing this instead of issuing a full 3-disc set of the Apu Trilogy (or more, with features!) is akin to their previous choice to release "Onibaba" instead of Shindo's "The Naked Island".

Well it's been all but officially confirmed that Criterion will be releasing the trilogy on blu-ray. But it may take awhile. I'm hoping for a 2013 release.
