Region 1 DVDs for Trilogy Set?

I'm looking for a solid, fairly current release of these movies in a 3-DVD set. So far, the one that looks the best is I believe a Korean set, but I'm not sure what region it is exactly. I've read Region 2 in some places and "All Regions" (whatever that means) in others. My question is, are these DVDs available in a set that can be played on U.S. DVD players? I'm really not sure what "All Regions" means, but it would indicate that the set in question qualifies. However, the fact that other sites list this same release as Region 2 is concerning to me. I'm just trying to find a good DVD release of these films, and that looks to be the best one. If I can't find something that's playable on Region 1 DVD players, however, then I guess I'm out of luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I am not sure whether you will get that. The prints are as old as of 1955 and also are not well preserved. I believe you have to go for what is there in the current market. Other than this what I can suggest that you should go for the actual trilogy (novel) - a must read before watching this movie.

I know this is years after you posted your question, but in case you or other people are still looking, I will post what I know. I took the plunge on the Korean 3 DVD set that's for sale on Amazon. It says "all regions" and NTSC in the details, and it played just fine on my standard US DVD player. All regions just means that the DVD publisher decided not to lock the release to just one region, so there is no artificial lock-out. NTSC is the old US analog color TV system.

The first disc (only one I've watched so far) has a mix of Korean and English options. It has a choice of Korean or English subtitles, and the featurette has English audio with Korean subtitles. A couple of written special features (biography and production notes) appear to be in Korean only, unless I missed something. The notes that go along with the storyboards are in English. While this set doesn't match the level of a Criterion release, I'm pretty happy with the purchase, and to finally have the opportunity to watch these masterpieces!

They are being released on DVD and blu-ray in November: https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/1145-the-apu-trilogy
